History

We are a non-governmental, non-profit organization, founded in 1994 by members of the community of Casco Antiguo in Panama City. The organization was created to protect the historical heritage of the Casco Viejo through legal and educational activities.

We arranged meetings with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), inviting them to know the importance of preserving Casco Antiguo. In this way, we contributed significantly to save the neighborhood when in 1998 Casco Antiguo was officially named World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Our Mission became: to safeguard the Historic and Human Heritage of Casco Antiguo through social, educational, cultural and conservation programs and actions

As we worked on the restoration of the architectural heritage of the neighborhood, we recognized that residents moved out of Casco Antiguo because their economic situation did not allow them to participate in the revitalization of the area. It became evident that with this gentrification we were losing a diverse culture which provided visitors and residents a fruitful social dynamics.
